Altem Technologies has a strong commitment to supporting innovative and meritorious students involved in engineering projects and tinkering endeavors. Recently, Altem had the privilege of assisting a team of engineering students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kerala, India, known as “Team unwired,” in their quest to design and build a Formula 1 racing car.

This marks the third instance in which Stratasys collaborated and extended a helping hand to engineering students by fabricating critical 3D printed components for their racing car projects. The previous two collaborations were with Thapar University in Punjab and Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka, India.

One of the key benefits of this collaboration is the utilization of Stratasys FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D Printing technology. Stratasys’ advanced FDM technology enables the rapid prototyping and production of complex components with precision and reliability. In this specific case, the 3D Printing materials used was ULTEM 9085 3D Printer filaments, a high-performance thermoplastic processed on Fortus 3D Printer models. ULTEM 9085 is an ideal fit for aerospace and automotive applications, especially lightweight components that demand a high heat deflection capacity.

In the aerospace industry, it is crucial for materials to meet stringent flame, smoke, and toxicity (FST) resistance standards. ULTEM 9085 3D Printer filaments not only fulfills these requirements but also boasts a V-0 flammability rating, making it an excellent choice for flame retardant properties. The NIT Kerala team’s project reached a successful culmination as they participated in racing events at the Irungattukottai Race Track in Chennai and the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This accomplishment demonstrates the practicality and impact of Industrial 3D Printer from Stratasys, in the realm of engineering and automotive innovation.

Altem Technologies remains dedicated to nurturing the aspirations of young engineering minds and continues to provide support for such innovative projects, furthering the application of advanced technologies in the field.
