Heard about celebrity 3D scanning in India lately? Here is what we are doing

House of Stars in association with Imagicaa is KloneWorld Entertainment’s first foray into the world of indoor entertainment attractions. Celebrity museum is quite a new market in India where public figures are considers are larger than life. Specially movies and sports star. Wax museum are new edge tourist attraction, clubbing it with interactive fan-based theme and merchandise makes them a weekend spot for the locals.

Sculpture are always relied on best possible measurement for preciseness and to replicate the real facial and body measurement. Especially when it comes to making a statute for a live person, the statue must be accordingly to the latest appearance because people have access to the looks of the celebrities much frequently in social media era. So even the smallest change in facial feature makes all the effort goes in vain.

The traditional process of collecting measurement for creating mask for facial dimension with silicon jell is very painful and suffocating for especially old age celebrities. Silicone masks are made from silicone rubber, which is durable, flexible, and lends itself to sculpting. Masks are designed to completely cover the head to transform into someone (or something) else in a matter of seconds

The manual measurement is not reliable and have a great chance of human error as the existing instrument are not capable enough to get the complex geometry of human body/face. Moreover, the instrument used to get the correct dimension are more than are more than half a dozen, that creates a kiosk on site and chance of error is increased. Measurement has to be done at once and all, as getting the time again if measurement missed is almost impossible and delays the process.

Scanning human face becomes a crucial task because it can change the shape in very less interval of time, so the Scanner must be very quick.

Safety of light sources are must a as scanner will directly projects light on the face/eyes, Artec Space sider uses Blue Light LED which are completely safe for human, it comes with feature of switching on flash bulb if person is not comfortable with flash light, which is unique with 3d scanners in the market.

In the process of creating a wax statue the artist or sculptor needs a PoP (Plaster of Paris) mould to work with. Pricelessness of mould with respect to real dimension defines the effort of sculpture. The measurement also defines how realistic the final product will be.

We replace the painful silicon mould measurement process with 3d scanning, an advance measurement process which simplifies the process of creating a mould for face. The timeline for making a mask is less than 8 hours once scanning is done in the first attempt which otherwise would have taken weeks to complete with minimum of 2-3 trials.

Another benefit is to scan the final wax model once again and superimpose it with the initial scanned data to identify the error in the statue making process and for future reference.

Future of 3D Scanning in movies/VFX applications is all about capturing data and processing it later for desired results.

A 3D scanner can be used for capturing full body scans of actors, vehicles and props, and environment scans, stadium scans for crowd population, and intricate set scans and create a basic and complex 3D meshing and modelling for gaming, film, TV and web applications.

3D Scanning

Altem Technologies was involved recently in scanning face and body scanning of more than 10 celebrities with various handheld scanners like of Artec Eva and Artec Space Spider.

Altem Technologies Pvt. Ltd, is an engineering firm with core strengths in Product Life Cycle Management, Advanced and Additive Manufacturing (AM) Solutions and 3D Digitization Technologies. Altem represents Artec3D who have a range of hand-held industrial 3D Scanners. ALTEM is head-quartered in Bangalore, India and operates through the sales offices across India. The Altem team consists of consultants, application engineers, designers, domain experts, software specialists and scientific specialists. We are happy to have associated with Altem Technologies for the celebrity scan and look forward to many more similar projects where we can work collaboratively.
